Moderation & Non-excessiveness

Victory Power Through Your Spleen Chakra Moderation is one of the secrets of prosperity. Do not spend beyond your budget. What you waste will be taken away.
-Master Choa Kok Sui

Today we live in a world where so much is accessible to us so easily, a world where ASAP (as soon as possible) is the norm, a world where a simple click of the mouse can help us get whatever we want. In such a world, it is no surprise that we often forget when to stop. The more we get, the more we want and greed is always dangerous. This is where the virtue of moderation and non-excessiveness comes in.

Within Abundance is the Seed of Poverty unless you practice tithing, moderation and industriousness
-Master Choa Kok Sui

Master Choa Kok Sui calls the virtue of moderation and non-excessiveness Soul Master as well. It is through moderation that you attain mastery over your base needs and can then strive to achieve a balance in every aspect of your life. It is advisable to avoid any extreme or excessive behaviour.

Money Saved is Money Earned

In terms of your finances, moderation involves living within your means. Wasteful spending will eventually lead to poverty. According to Master Choa Kok Sui, saving and investing 20-30% of what one earns (after taxation and tithing) is one of the keys to prosperity.

Sex and Moderation

Sex energy is of importance as it fuels creativity. However, it needs to be transmuted so that it may nourish the higher chakras. Transmutation of sex energy is a process in which sex energy from the Sex Chakra or Swadhishtana Chakra is smoothly taken up to the higher chakras in the human body. Master Choa Kok Sui says that “To enjoy life, to have fun, to work, and to have sex are all good. But they have to be done in moderation.”

While excessiveness in sex is detrimental and results in depletion of energy in the upper centers, having a negative or puritanical attitude towards sex is harmful as well. Without healthy sexual energy, spiritual illumination is nearly impossible. A negative attitude might even result in a myoma in the reproductive organs or other severe ailments. Master therefore advises a middle path- a path of balance and moderation.

Everything in Moderation including Moderation

The essence of moderation and non-excessiveness is balance. You’ve probably heard of the phrase, “Too much of anything is bad”. As you progress spiritually, you might develop a tendency to curtail every aspect of yourself which you feel will hamper with your internal growth. Even that is against the virtue of moderation and non-excessiveness as you will end up overdoing it. Suppression is not the solution, transmutation is. You need to utilize and transform undesirable energies that are within you. Excessive remorse and guilt hinder spiritual well-being and happiness. Instead of dwelling in the past about certain things you might have done, focus on your present and you will be rewarded in the future.

Regulate your mind. Do not worry excessively about the future. If you have done everything that has to be done, the future will take care of itself.
-Master Choa Kok Sui

Let Moderation be your Guide

When you allow the virtue of moderation to develop within you, you don’t just kill your negative aspiration blindly. You learn how to mould your tendencies of excessiveness and fuel your progress on the journey of spirituality. Moderation and non-excessiveness can guide you through the trying times at present. The world may be getting more impatient by the day and most of us may be feeling a bit disconnected with the virtues of moderation and non-excessiveness, but it is never too late to try. We all have what it takes to make the right choices. All we need is a bit of faith and the will to make an effort.
