Feel the Power of Love and Kindness through Your Heart Chakra/Anahata Chakra

Heart Chakra The Heart Chakra is situated in front of the heart and the back heart chakra is located at the back of the heart. The heart chakra consists of 12 petals. While the front heart chakra contains light red and golden pranas, the back heart chakra consists of red, orange and yellow pranas. The difference in appearance between the front and the back heart chakra is that the front heart chakra contains more golden prana with some light red prana.

Why is it important to activate the heart chakra to activate the crown chakra?

The Heart chakra is the lower correspondence of the Crown chakra. The Crown chakra or sahasrara chakra consists of 960 outer petals and 12 golden inner petals The 12 golden petals are the reflection of the golden inner petals of the crown chakra. Thus the Heart chakra needs to be activated in order to activate the Crown chakra.

Spiritual Functions of the Anahata Chakra

While the Solar Plexus or Manipura chakra is self-oriented, the heart chakra is others-oriented. ‘Others-oriented’ can be explained as the pre-dominant concern for what others want, feel and expect. To be successful and happy in life, both qualities are important. The Solar Plexus chakra and the Heart chakra need to be developed equally. This is called balancing loving-kindness with self-interest.

Psychological Functions of the Anahata Chakra

Activating the Heart chakra helps in calming a person down and making him more receptive to healing. The Heart chakra is the center of higher emotions such as kindness, patience, joy, peace, caring and empathy. The lower emotional energies can be transmuted into higher forms of emotional energies by activating the Heart chakra. Psychologically ill patients should practice Twin Heart Meditation regularly and for the rest of their lives. A hysterical person can be calmed down through acupuncture by stimulating certain points that activate the Heart chakra.   The development of the Heart chakra is often neglected and because of this a person of high intelligence could come across as abrasive. He could be successful professionally but his personal relationships might be disturbed. A person with an under-developed heart chakra is not emotionally matured and should practice meditation on Twin hearts to become harmoniously balanced.

Physiological Functions of the Anahata Chakra:

  • The front heart chakra energizes and controls the heart and thymus gland.
  • The back heart chakra controls and energizes the lungs, heart, thymus gland and the circulatory system.

Energizing the Physical Heart Through the Back Heart Chakra

When the Heart is energized through the back heart chakra, Prana flows easily into the heart and lungs without causing congestion in the heart. When the physical heart is energized through the front heart chakra, the result is direct and immediate. However the pranic energy tends to localize and does not spread fully through the other parts of the body. This may cause heart pranic congestion. The whole body can be energized through the back heart chakra and thus experienced pranic healers energize through the back heart chakra and not the front heart chakra. The heart chakra also plays an important role in helping the body fight infections. The thymus gland, which can be energized through the back heart chakra, is important in the defense system of the body.

Taoist Indian Correspondence of the Heart Chakra

  • The heart chakra is known as yu tang in Taoist yoga. It means the ‘hall of Jade’. The back heart chakra is known as the ling tai which means ‘divine or spirit’s platform’ or ‘temple of the soul’.
  • In Sanskrit, the front heart chakra is known as the Anahata chakra.
  • In Tamil, this chakra is known as the Kadhir. And the back heart chakra is known as the Mel Kaala Varmam.
