The 12th Chakra is also called the Soul Star. During the seventh month of pregnancy, the incarnated soul lodges itself onto the 12th chakra of the foetus. The Soul Star or the 12th chakra is located one foot above the head and resembles a golden star. As a person gains more spiritual maturity, the star develops into a golden pearl, a golden ball, a golden bud and with even further activation and spiritual evolution, it becomes a strong flame. This evolved and activated 12th chakra is what is referred to as the Pentacostal Fire in Christian religious philosophies.
But what validates the concept of us possessing 12 chakras? Religious scriptures are often sources of great wisdom but such wisdom is usually veiled and not presented openly, requiring us to read between the lines.
It is commonly believed that there are 11 chakras. However, in the Book of Revelation, a segment of the Holy Bible, there is mention of the Tree of Life bearing 12 fruits (Revelation 22:22). Though in Kabbalistic teachings, there are 10 Sephiroth and a hidden 11th Sephirah, the teachings of Pranic healing and Arhatic Yoga propound the concept of 12 chakras. While there are 11 chakras within the body, the 12th chakra is 12 inches outside the body, above the head.
The Book of Revelation also speaks of a city that was great “...and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels...” (Revelation 21:12) All of these revelations correspond to the fact that there are 12 chakras. The incarnated soul radiates outward from the 12th chakra thus forming the soul aura. The essence of the soul or the “soul” energy permeates the physical body, the energy body, the astral body as well as the mental body. The soul is both inside and outside the physical body.
In Taoism, the 12th chakra is referred to as the “spiritual fetus”. Taoist teachings for the spiritual evolution of the 12th chakra form the base for the inner teachings of Arhatic Yoga.
Stages of Spiritual Growth
There are various stages of growth that the 12th chakra undergoes. In an ordinary person, the 12th chakra is in the 1st stage and resembles a point of white light. As an individual starts on the spiritual path, the 12th chakra develops and can be seen through clairvoyance as a golden seed of light. With further evolution, in the 3rd stage, the seed of light develops into a golden ball or a golden bud. Spiritually evolved lamas and yogis have 12th chakras that rotate very rapidly alternating between clockwise and counter-clockwise rotations. The golden bud of their 12th chakra blooms into a golden lotus which increases the person's ability to deal with stronger spiritual energy as the person matures spiritually.
This process of spiritual development can be accelerated through the practice of the five virtues. Engaging in healthy relationships with others and providing service to help people in need aid the evolution of the soul. Regular practice of meditation further hastens the process of optimal activation of the 12th chakra.
